The Las Palmas International Film Festival returns after two years

The twenty-first edition of the International Film Festival will feature 95 films. This year it will be held between April 22 and May 1

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival (FIC) returns after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic. Luis Miranda, its director, presented this Wednesday the twenty-first edition which will have some 95 movies of all the world.

As celebrated by Councilor for Culture of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Encarna Galvánthis year «finally, it will be possible take back the festivalwith all that it was and how it was », after two editions in which the coronavirus crisis forced it to cancel or cut its programming.

All the works can be seen between the April 22 and May 1 in the rooms of Cinema at El Muelle Shopping Center. In this edition, which is supported by a budget of 550,000 euros contributed by the City Hall of Las Palmas according to its director, Luis Miranda. There will be ten feature films and twelve short films that will compete for the prizes of the Official Section of the Festival.

This edition aims to bring the public closer to both new films and classics

Participants have been selected from nearly 300 and range from France to the United States, Canada, Vietnam or Rwanda. All of them will submit to the verdict of the jury which this year will be made up of three women from different origins.

The twenty-first edition of the International Film Festival will be dedicated to the French director Lucille Hadzihalilovicthe writer and president of the Commission of Aid Funds for Moroccan Cinema, Rita El Khayatand the Estonian filmmaker Tiina Lokk.

The program of the event includes a total of 95 movies distributed in various cycles such as ‘Canarias Cinema’, ‘Panorama Spain’ or ‘The Most Freak Night’. In this way, they will bring the public closer to recently finished films and also to classics of silent cinema «revitalized». This is the case of «Nosferatu»which will be screened with live music, recalling the time it was filmed a century ago.
