The largest Zara store in the world opens in Rotterdam

The new Zara store is located in a former C&A building on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. The 9,000 square meters are spread over five floors.

In addition to Rotterdam, Zara’s parent company, Inditex, is also opening large Zara branches in Paris and Miami. The international fashion company is opening more large stores and closing smaller stores. In one year, 625 cases disappeared.

Inditex, which also owns clothing brands Pull & Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius, now has 5,745 stores.

To spare

The Zara owner saves on costs with the larger stores, which are reduced per item of clothing sold. According to the Financial Times, the larger stores also offer space for Zara’s other product lines such as cosmetics, shoes, sportswear and Zara Home’s home goods.

In addition, physical stores play a role in online sales, because orders can be picked up and returned in the larger branches. The company is integrating a QR system to reserve fitting rooms and self-scan checkouts in several new stores.

Zara faced higher staff costs this year. For example, the wages of employees in Spanish stores rose sharply after actions. This has been compensated by significantly increasing clothing prices outside Europe.

In the Netherlands, in addition to the store in Rotterdam, there are more than twenty Zara branches.
