We contacted Neolith at the beginning of 2018. The project could have been one of many, in which an artist is called in to decorate an interior or walls and nothing else. But this was not the case: after a tour of the fabric, we have discovered an unknown world. An innovative material whose manufacture has a zero impact on the environment. Those materials as before, designed to last and not be replaced in a short time. A material that, in this way, nobody produces.
The link between Neolith and our firm was practically immediate in the use of the material, taking the performances almost to the limit, in the desire to create a garden sculpture that can welcome those who come to work and those who come to know the materials.
We have developed a support structure and elaborated the main “character / subject” of Pixelpancho, the robot, to make it stable and proportionate. Slabs of different colors were used, in metallic tones (aged iron, steel, Corten steel), to give a feeling of depth, roundness and almost a pictorial gesture to the sculpture. The first part, built at the beginning of 2020, with the valuable support of Neolith technicians, was mounted behind the wall decoration, a freehand gold floral print, which allows not to invade but to wrap the structure in a chromatic similarity.. At the same time, we have created some tanks to contain a small semi-sufficient garden.
Once the sculpture was finished and after the confinement, we completed the installation with the plants. Native and low maintenance selections, with a small semi-automatic irrigation system to keep the soil moist despite the scorching heat that characterizes the area. Chunks of Neolith were used to create the flower beds, instead of the common gravel, in shades of white and beige, so as not to absorb too much heat and limit the growth of invasive plants, allowing others to grow in your space. Art, innovation and sustainability were the keywords of this project. The first, hopefully, of others to propose these principles and intentions.

PixelPancho Studio is founded by PixelPancho, an artist born in Turin in 1984 and who was introduced to color and form by his grandfather, who painted occasionally. Over time, his passion for art and design led him to the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, followed by the Academy of Fine Arts in Valencia, Spain, where he earned his degree. During that time, he became familiar with the graffiti and street art scenes. Influenced by this world, he began using aerosol cans and markers and working on outdoor surfaces. This stood out clearly from the classic paper and canvas formula that the other students were using at the time. VTraveling between his hometown in Turin and Valencia, Pixelpancho took every opportunity to get noticed on the streets, using different media such as tiles, wall paint and stickers / posters. Soon his works were taking over many European cities, adorning wall after wall.

Pixelpancho’s work draws on various influences. In his works you can see traces of the historical painter Joaquín Sorolla, the surrealist Salvador Dalí, the group of political painters “El Equipo Crónica” to the more modern Ron English, and Takashi Murakami. Traveling to Paris, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Vienna and many other cities for graffiti and gallery exhibitions has allowed his style to evolve from a simple robot character to the more complex compositions of his current work. The narrative of Pixelpancho’s work is driven by a forgotten world that sits under a blanket of dust. In it, the broken and dented robots lie decomposing on the ground, their bodies of iron and oxidized copper fall and lie as if they had been discarded into oblivion. Although the scale of his work varies, the surrealist field is a constant common thread, running through contemporary and historical references that add a sense of relevance within our place and time. The force of the physical and gestural references that humanize these robots results in the artist’s unmistakable imprint. Found on the walls of abandoned buildings in cities in Europe, the United States, and Mexico, Pixelpancho’s work is an interconnected structure of stories. The murals, the paintings, the sculptures … in the end they are just a small part of something bigger, another story within the ever-growing realm.
