A predator is spreading in Baden-Württemberg. And the largest in the world. This is of great concern to experts.

“The largest predator in the world” is currently conquering Baden-Württemberg. And it’s actually not that big. Because it is the Argentine ant. But as a colony, it endangers entire ecosystems.

Wild animals are rampant

Especially in southwestern Germany. Wolves have been spotted there in various counties. For example, from a walker in the Zollernalb district. Meanwhile, more and more wild animals are conquering the urban areas of Stuttgart.

Now the “biggest predator in the world” is also spreading in Baden-Württemberg. A first case has now been seen in Heilbronn. This animal is so named because it is a huge threat to the ecosystem. An exterminator from Heilbronn discovered the first case. This is far from the animal’s original home. Because it is the Argentine ant. This is so dangerous because it is an omnivore. The animal is therefore also a potential carrier of diseases because it contaminates the food.

The researcher warns of the Argentine ant

Dangerous insects have also left their mark in other European countries. For example in the mild climate of the Mediterranean region in the south of France. Experts have already identified the animals there.

Fighting the Argentine ant is important. Because otherwise they allied themselves with a so-called super colony, which spans vast areas. The largest super colony to date was 6,000 kilometers long. The Argentine ant acts as a mega-organism in its struggle for habitat and food. This destroys entire ecosystems. That is why they are called the largest predator in the world.

So far there have been fields in the city district of Heilbronn, in the district of Heilbronn and Hohenlohne. The animals are already entering the quarters. This surprises the experts. Because they actually live in gardens or on terraces. They have been fighting them there for a number of years.
