On Friday morning, the Compostela artist, Manuel Blanco, delivered
to Perefecto Santiso, owner of the plant in Santiago de Compostela O Xa Chegou, the largest octopus dish in the world made in one piece. This adds to the collection of pieces of Galician culture that decorate the walls of the bar.
For the dish, the artist has inspired by the flag of the Swabian kingdom of Galicia, and so he decided to hand-paint a dragon and a lion facing each other. Highlights of the work, of which his was commissioned large size 42.3 cm which maximum size that the traditional octopus dish can have from the machinery with which it is made.
The work is made exclusively and is signed by the carpentry workshop J. Nogueira Industries in A Estrada (Pontevedra), the same shop that prepares octopus dishes for Guinness World Record.
The the creation of the dish was performed live in the Plaza de la Inmaculada in recent weeks, where Manuel Blanco (1971), has a stable with decorated shells. The artist moves into the multidisciplinary arts in Santiago and has a long career under the pseudonym Ulex. Since 2010 she has had a stall in the old part of Compostela, where she works saving the ancient craft of painting shells, in addition to the traditional pyrography on wood.
