On the first day of October, New York will be the city in which the largest portion of mangú in the world is made; which is an initiative of Flavor Fusion Fest with the intention of breaking the Guinness World Records. The initiative is spearheaded by award-winning chef Amilkar Gonell in association with two Michelin star chef María Marte and talented chef Pamela Gonell.
¨We are very excited to be able to present this festival to the public, we have worked hard on all the details for more than a year and a half, during the COVID 19 pandemic. We have taken all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all those involved. This event will be one of the largest celebrations of Latin American Gastronomy as has not been seen before in New York City ”, said Chef Amilcar Gonell.
The bananas to prepare the biggest mangú ever are on the way! The municipality of Tamayo, Bahoruco, recognized as the Capital of Banana, is honored to participate in the Flavor Fusion Fest NYC 2021 and be part of this succulent challenge.

4,500 units of bananas will be shipped from said southern town, which will serve to break the record and produce 1,200 pounds of mangú! Milcíades Montes de Oca, Mayor of the Municipality of Tamayo, highlights the great opportunity it has been to participate in this event and celebrate one of the most beloved dishes of the Dominican Republic in a big way.
Flavor Fusion Fest is an organization that promotes, supports and celebrates culinary arts experiences that integrate communities. This network consists of renowned executive chefs, foodies and cooking enthusiasts who integrate and share a passion for unique culinary experiences.
On September 30, more than 100 volunteers will participate in different challenges, such as peeling bananas, cutting onions and working on all the preparation of the mangú to be ready to break the record. All of them will start working from 4:00 in the afternoon.
