Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and they’re the biggest iPhones ever. But there’s more news than that: Here’s what’s changed.

iPhone 16 Pro (Max) officially announced
They’ve finally been revealed: the brand new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max! This year’s luxury models were announced during an Apple event and have received quite a few upgrades. Some of them are immediately apparent; other features are a bit better hidden. We’ve listed all the innovations for you!
iPhone 16 Pro display en design

The iPhone 16 Pro design is noticeably different, thanks to a larger display with thinner bezels than ever before, with the Pro making the jump from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, and the Pro Max going from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. The difference is mainly in the height of the screen. The new displays are also immediately a lot brighter, with a maximum of 1200 nits across the entire screen.
The rest of the design has also been given a small refresh. The most striking innovation is a completely new gold color: desert titanium! There is also a new button on the right side – more about that below. Furthermore, the device is still made of titanium with a matte glass back, just like its predecessor, but the titanium has a new ‘micro-blasted’ texture.
New Camera Control button
Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) was equipped with a so-called Action button for the first time. This is a button on the left side to which you can link almost any function you want.
The iPhone 16 Pro (Max) has yet another button on the right side, below the power button. This Camera Control button is pressure-sensitive and operates all kinds of camera functions. Press it to open the Camera app, then press it lightly to open an advanced camera menu, swipe over it to zoom and more. Handy!
Better camera
With the Camera Control button you also directly operate a better camera system than ever before. Where previously only the main camera had a 48-megapixel sensor, this year the ultra-wide-angle camera has also made the step to this higher resolution. This allows you to take more detailed photos, and better photos in the dark by combining pixels. Your macro photos will also be more spectacular than ever. And, also nice: the 5x zoom camera is now also in the smaller Pro – so it no longer has to make do with 3x!
Also new is the ability to film at 120 frames per second in 4K resolution (and even in 4K ProRes), filter wind noise from your videos, and capture Spatial audio in video. And for the first time, you can take photos in 3D with Spatial Photos, which you can later view with Apple Vision Pro.
Larger battery
The iPhone 16 Pro (Max) battery has a new design, which has significantly increased its capacity. Both versions of the device therefore last longer than their predecessors. They even have the best battery life ever in an iPhone!
Faster A18 Pro chip
The iPhone 16 Pro (Max) has, as always, the fastest chip ever in an iPhone. This time it’s the A18 Pro, a faster version of the A18 found in the iPhone 16 (Plus). It has faster cores that are up to 15% faster, a better graphics chip that’s up to 20% faster, and more power for AI tasks. It’s also much better cooled, so the iPhone’s chassis gets less hot.
It is striking that the A18 Pro still only has 8 GB of memory at its disposal. That is fine for now, but future AI applications will probably require a lot more memory. So this is not really future-proof.
Apple Intelligence
Of course, the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) also supports Apple Intelligence, a new set of AI features baked into iOS. For the Netherlands and Belgium, this is not really relevant yet, since the features will not be released here until next year. But for American customers, Apple Intelligence is also absent until iOS 18.1, an update that will not be released until the end of October. What is cool is that the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) will eventually get an exclusive Apple Intelligence feature: Visual Intelligence. This allows the camera of your iPhone to recognize objects, shops, restaurants and more.
iPhone 16 Pro (Max) price and release
Just like last year, the iPhone 16 Pro starts with 128GB of storage, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts with 256GB of storage. Here are the iPhone 16 Pro prices:
