From June 25 to 27, Angers will host Nature is Bike, a gravel event bringing together 5 routes and 1 show. Angers will be the organizer of this event which will leave from Normandy, to Arromanches.
For three days, Gravel will be in the spotlight in Angers. But first of all, what is Gravel? It is a sporting discipline practiced thanks to a bicycle located halfway between mountain biking and VTC. This discipline is much less technical than mountain biking but allows, thanks to an adapted bike, to ride on stone paths, without taking any risk. “It is a sport, nature, very committed and without competition”. describes Mathilde Favre d’Anne, the deputy mayor of Angers. Thus, to highlight this discipline qualified as eco-responsible coming from the United States, Destination Angers, Angers Loire Métropole and the City of Angers have come together to organize the first event dedicated to Gravel in France. With 5 courses and 1 show, Gravel will be accessible to all and free during this weekend.
Nature is Bike aims to promote Gravel. The objective is therefore to raise public awareness of Gravel, by presenting it as soft mobility as well as the many greenways in the department. The city of Angers wants to use this event to confirm its status as the first green city in France. Indeed, by organizing this event, the City of Angers will promote soft mobility and allow participants to show all the qualities of this city on an eco-responsible level.“The idea is to shine the spotlight on the city of Angers which brings together all the assets to create this event” continues Mathilde Favre d’Anne. Notably labeled by WWF, Nature is bike wants to be greener than ever.
With more than 800 participants registered on all the routes, Nature is bike aims to make the city of Angers the largest Gravel spot in France. During this weekend, several activities will be offered and a trade fair with several round tables on different themes. But a course will attract a lot of attention: “Gravel of Legend”. With 300 kilometers to cover in less than 20 hours, the runners will have to reach Arromanches before 2 a.m. A very sporting challenge in which the sports assistant and former professional footballer, Charles Diers, will take the start “I made a commitment with two friends to finish it. It is more of a challenge against oneself than against anyone ” he relativizes. He will accompany many professional athletes who will be present for this event.
