The largest food company in the world recognizes that over 60% of its products are unhealthy

The world’s largest food company, Nestlé, has acknowledged that more than 60% of its main products and beverages do not fall into “Recognized definitions of health, and some of these products do not “They will never be healthy, no matter how fast we improve them”, transmite Financial Times.

A presentation circulated this year among top executives, analyzed by FT, shows that only 37% of the company’s products, excluding animal feed and medical food, manage to reach a rating of over 3.5 stars in the health system. from Australia.

The system places products in a one to five star rating and is used in research by international groups such as the Access to Nutrition Foundation (ATNF), founded in the Netherlands. Nestlé, the maker of KitKat, Maggi and Nescafé, describes the 3.5-star threshold as a “recognized definition of health”.

Of Nestlé’s entire food and beverage portfolio, about 70% of foodstuffs failed to meet this rating, along with 96% of beverages, excluding pure coffee, and 99% of its ice cream and confectionery portfolio.

Meanwhile, bottled water and dairy products fall in proportion of 82% and 60%, respectively, in the rating set by the ATNF.

The information in the document excludes baby products, animal feed, coffee and the health sciences division, which means that the data represents about half of the Swiss giant’s total annual revenue – 84.3 billion Swiss francs.

The document also came at a time when some of the largest food companies are trying to fight obesity and promote healthier eating patterns. Nestlé executives are currently trying to set a number of nutrition quality goals, with plans to be unveiled this year.
