The people of Heiligenhafen miss the guild brothers of the Great Citizens Guild, who usually celebrated their guild festival in June and marched through the streets with music in black suits with yellow guild roses. The new Gildehaus in Erlenweg, where life should really rule, is also referred to. The first senior citizen Horst Sachau reports that the billing day on January 9th only took place in small groups.
The winter ball also fell victim to Corona on February 27. “At our last board meeting we decided to skip all of this. We are now targeting April 1, 2021, to first see how the pandemic is developing in general, and then to make a decision as to when and where we could start, “explains Sachau.
Scheduling depends on the corona events
However, this time he is anything but optimistic when it comes to scheduling, emphasizes the guild’s first senior man. On the normal schedule, May 8th would be the anniversary of the Great Citizens Guild, and June 4th would normally be the Guild Festival, he looks ahead.
“I look at the corona numbers and developments every day with great interest. If the number of infections remains at this high level, I have little hope. But hope dies last, as is well known, and so I understand the wish of my guild brothers to get back to normal conditions as quickly as possible, ”Sachau explains about the event planning in the guild for the year 2021.
Contact via the guild messenger and via Whatsapp
Contact with the guild brothers is maintained through the new guild messenger Rolf Rocksien. He will bring home their certificates for the Guild Brothers to be honored. “Even with anniversaries and birthdays, it is the Gildebote that brings the congratulations on behalf of the board,” describes the first elderly man. The board of directors has also set up a Whatsapp group called “Gilde aktuell”, he reports. Here you can read what is happening in the guild. The guild is well networked and also has an executive board group through which the first senior man, the second senior man and the cashier talk, says Sachau.
In another Whatsapp group, the rest of the board exchanges ideas. This communication works well, but in the long run it cannot replace direct contact with the guild brothers, he emphasizes. “Somehow the guild music, the constructive discussions with the guild brothers and the guild festivities are missing. Our guild song ‘Hold out in the storm’ has become a symbol of this pandemic, ”says Sachau.
There is currently no king in the guild
When our newspaper asked who is king now, Horst Sachau says: “We don’t have a king at the moment because the Gildefest 2020 has been canceled and the 2019 king, Rolf Jankwitz, is currently viceroy. This is what the guild statutes provide. A new king can only be expelled at the next guild festival. That was already the case in times of war, when we couldn’t celebrate guild festivals. “

Gildekapellen chairman Jan-Hendrik Lohde had started the effort with a planned corona hygiene concept to organize another practice evening for the musicians of the Gildekapelle. But then came the second lockdown in mid-December. “As part of the supplementary ordinance to contain the pandemic, everything was shut down in Germany and so no practice evenings for the guild band were possible. It is understandable that the guild musicians also want normal times back, ”says Sachau.
