The Lapenderys, Charolais in their blood

Vincent Lapendery took over the family farm in 2019. Today, with his cousin, he raises 200 Charolais cows registered in the Charolais Herd Book (HBC). In 2023, he took over as president of Ajec Loire. Portrait.

Vincent Lapendery comes from a long line of farmers. His grandfather, Louis Lapendery, largely contributed to the development and promotion of the Charolais breed in the department. “Our farm is over 80 years old and just as many genetics! », the young man boasts.

After completing an agricultural baccalaureate at the Chervé high school, he also worked for the Charolais Herd Book (HBC), then six years for Cattle Growth (Saône-et-Loire) before returning to Roannais. Installed on April 1, 2019, first with his father and uncle, he is today in Gaec with his cousin and raises 200 Charolais cows registered with the HBC. A herd of 60 sheep and 370 hectares, including 40 of cereals for self-consumption and 10 of corn, intended for cow feed in winter, complete the Saint-Haon-le-Vieux farm.

Vincent Lapendery is full of praise for the Charolais breed, whose passion is contagious: “It is one of the best meat breeds, with a very complete morphology. It is a very pretty animal format, which adapts equally well to the plains and the mountains. Charolaise is ideal for crossbreeding! » he enthuses.

Both a breeder and president of Ajec Loire, his schedule is full. Not always easy, as he explains, “especially with the return of cold and calving”. But, aware of the connection he has made with the association, without much remorse he takes time from his work and a little more from his family time. “I have my role at heart and this auction project that we launched around a table, laughing, must be carried out, even if it requires a lot of investment. We must be able to put all the chances on our side to succeed. »
