With the aim of strengthening cultural diversity, the Language Center of the University of Antofagasta is organizing an International Film Series in the auditorium of the Coloso Campus Library, an event that will bring together films produced in countries such as France, Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia and Portugal.
The cycle, which will run until mid-November, will begin this Wednesday, August 21, at 4:00 p.m., with the screening of the French film Marinette by director Virginie Verrierlater, on the 22nd and 29th of this month, the films Po feng (To the Fore) by Dante Lam and Perfect Days by Wim Wenders will be screened, from China and Japan, respectively.
The director of the UA Language Center, Denise Cid Frías, highlighted the importance of this initiative and the variety of film titles. “The objective is to promote the internationalization process and foster cultural plurality in the university community, and it is of great relevance, since through these activities we manage to articulate and position ourselves as reference actors to generate ties with different international institutions, thus strengthening public diplomacy, languages, culture and validating the interculturality of the community,” she emphasized.
Marinette
The film that opens the International Film Series shows the life of Marinette Pichon, the first French soccer player to sign for the American professional league, becoming a record-breaking athlete for the number of goals scored for her club and the French national team. However, to achieve these feats, she had to overcome various obstacles that filmmaker Virginie Verrier portrays in the 96-minute duration of this film.
Po feng (To the Fore)
The dream of a young man (Qui Ming) to become a professional cyclist is the main theme of the film, which shows a series of conflicts between rivals, where there is room for sadness, recriminations and heart-stopping races, which makes the film directed by Dante Lam a dynamic and truly entertaining plot.
With these two unmissable titles, the first version of the International Film Series begins this Wednesday, August 21 and 22, starting at 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Central Library of the Coloso Campus of the University of Antofagasta.
