The Lancet: unrecognized protracted form of acute respiratory viral infection discovered | Abroad

Scientists from Queen Mary University of London have discovered a new protracted form of ARVI, the site writes med-heal.ru with reference to The Lancet.

It is reported that more than 10 thousand people who had recovered from coronavirus infection took part in the survey. The experts found that the most common symptoms of long-term coronavirus are weakness, fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, and others. They then compared how common these symptoms were among three groups: people who reported having coronavirus, those who reported another acute respiratory infection, and those who did not report illness.

“The study showed that all the considered signs were more common in people with previous covid. However, they also occurred in patients with respiratory infections. In other words, the results point to the existence of a “lingering cold”: long-term health consequences from a cold, flu or pneumonia that currently remain unrecognized,” the team noted.
