The Lancet Journal: The British Variant Coronavirus Does Not Cause More Pain

Merdeka.com – The journal of Infectious Diseases medicine, The Lancet, stated in its latest publication that the highly contagious variant of the coronavirus that was first identified in the UK did not cause patients to become more sick.

The variant known as B.1.1.7 was first identified in the UK last year and is becoming the most common variant in the United States, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.

This study analyzed the conditions of 496 Covid-19 patients who were admitted to hospitals in the UK in November and December last year and compared them with patients infected with the coronavirus from other variants. The investigators found no differences in the risk of more severe illness, death, or other clinical outcomes for patients with variant B.1.1.7 and other variants.

“Our data, in the context of research and limited real-world studies, provide results that reaffirm that hospitalized patients with variant B.1.1.7 do not experience a different severity than patients with other variants,” the investigators said in The Lancet journal, as reported by the Al Arabiya page, Tuesday (13/4).

Meanwhile, in a separate study published in the journal Public Health The Lancet found that the vaccine appears to be quite effective against the British variant of the corona virus because there was no increase in transmission when compared to other variants that are not B.1.1.7.

According to British scientists, the British variant of the corona virus is about 40-70 percent more contagious than the previous corona virus variant. [pan]
