Original and appreciated initiative by the city of Lamentin which organized a “Chanté Nwèl drive” (Saturday December 19, 2020), in the parking lot of the Georges Gratiant stadium. Voices, music and horns added dimension to the party.

Covid-19 forced the organizers to rethink their program and to be inventive. The city of Lamentin had to make a popular Christmas while avoiding creating a source of contamination.
The solution found is a live show, spectators in their cars and a lively group: the “Troubadours”, who have the secret of setting the mood, mixing hymns and ritornello.

Catchy refrains
The troubadours have shown how much they know their songs. In 11 years of existence, they have improved. The band at Jefferson Defrel, Charles Rémion and Eva Vautor, has the particularity of appropriating popular tunes from here and elsewhere, adopting them, then adapting them to turn them into catchy tunes.
Sitting in their cars, some on the windowsill of their homes, the spectators sang, shouted and sounded their horns and applause. The scene full of fervor took all its elegance in front of a podium allowing the distancing of the artists. In addition, the giant screens gave an extra shine to this Christmas of light.
The arrangements, the ritornelles, the harmonized hymns made a nod to Loulou Boislaville who launched this tradition, to Saintbert Troudart who punctuated the ritornelles, to pastor Baptiste, Xavier Foster, (deceased last year), who launched the gospel lypso.
The guests, Roro from “Mizik Nwèl” and Michel Sauvage from Kantik des Mornes distinguished themselves. Roro relaunched the famous “Christmas” by JM Harmony and Mano Granier and Michel Sauvage highlighted the belé.
