Deputy Mayor Giorgos Arletos announced today the opening of the cycling route on the lake front. The route will operate from June 15 to July 9, during which time the events from the Onassis Foundation Roof will also take place.
“In our Municipality, through an integrated planning, with the participation of agencies and citizens, we are forming a wide network of cycle paths. We seek to ensure the movement by bicycle for every citizen, wherever his residence is and whatever his destination, with solutions suitable for the characteristics of each road, substituting with this the mild average percentage of the movements that are currently made by the car.
Walking and cycling are the main pillars of transport and one of the objectives regarding the achievement of climate neutrality in our city. By changing the conditions on the road, the city changes as a whole” said the deputy mayor of works in his statements.
From the area of Kyra Frosini to the lakeside pedestrian path in the Anatoli-Katsika area, a bicycle route will be formed with appropriate markings.
Also from today, Karolos Papoulia Street is permanently one-way from its junction with Voianou Street to the first bridge, heading from Voianou Street to the East.
The action is the starting point for the creation of the bicycle path network, an intervention with a budget of 400,000.00 euros that will take place on the lakefront and will provide citizens with a complete route of approximately seven kilometers in length.
A route that will actually start from Mavili Square and will reach the lakeside promenade in the Anatoli-Katsika area.
This project, which has already been contracted, is part of an overall network of renovations that will be implemented on the lake front.
The main interventions, as presented by Deputy Mayor Giorgos Arletos, are the following:
-Renovations of urban and peri-urban areas (Katsari park), budget 280,000.00 euros, project concerning interventions (paving sidewalks, pedestrian crossings), on Dionysiou Filosofou and Garivaldi streets. The project has been contracted.
-Improvement of accessibility – sidewalks of the Municipality of Ioannita, budget 500,000.00 euros, a project concerning the improvement and reconstruction of the sidewalks, from the side of the lake, on the Miaouli Coast and specifically on Karolos Papoulia Street. Its contractualization is expected.
– Interventions to improve road safety in the urban road network of the Municipality of Ioannito (4,000,000.00 euros), which completes the interventions in the area of the lake front.
“Small actions can have a big impact when combined with the efforts of all of us. With the cooperation we can make everyday life better and lay the foundations for the changes needed for Ioannina to become a sustainable city, friendly to everyone” he concluded.
