As the deadline approaches, the Lakers see the circumstances pushing them to be active in the market. But although they were expected at the arrivals level, it is today at the departure department that the Californian franchise is talking about. Bye-bye to a pivot.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James out injured, Lakers downsized to face the huge schedule that awaits them in the coming weeks. Suffice to say that the period promises to be tough for the purples and golds, which would not be against a little reinforcement.
The Andre Drummond case crystallizes their attention, but it was also learned from Brian Windhorst of ESPN this Sunday that Rob Pelinka has had discussions with other franchises regarding the arrival of a player on the backlines. What is certain is that a place in the roster is quite fresh.
The Lakers have in fact chosen not to retain Damian Jones at the end of his second 10-day contract. End of the adventure for him, as Dave McMenamin of ESPN reports:
NBA teams can only sign a player to two 10-day contracts in a season. The Lakers allowed Damian Jones’ second 10-day contract expire without signing the center for the rest of the season, as earlier reported by the L.A. Times. Jones is now an unrestricted free agent.
