The Lakers are improving their medical team

The Los Angeles Lakers have added Leroy Sims as their new director of player health and performance. Sims will report directly to Rob Pelinka and will be responsible for overseeing player health care and optimizing player health and performance.

Sims is coming off the heels of the NBA’s chief medical officer role, where he developed and implemented new health protocols, worked on developing new medical technologies to enhance the player experience, and conducted medical risk assessments. He was one of the key men in executing medical operations for the Orlando bubble in 2020, and has experience working for the U.S. national team and the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers have been the victim of various physical problems this year, with players like Jarred Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent missing significant stretches of the season. The franchise, which has not made any moves in the market, seems to believe that the medical team could use some more help, and they trust that the arrival of the experienced doctor can help them in this regard.
