At the end of September, the woman was stopped at the airport in Minnesota in the USA.
In the suitcase, the customs officials found a rather unusual souvenir that she would like to bring home from Kenya:
Giraffe feces.
The small box was discovered when she was selected for a check, writes the news agency AP. It had to be handed over to the customs officers.
Had plans
Regardless of how abnormal people may think it is to bring faeces in any form home from holiday, the woman had an explanation:
According to AP she told me that the plan was to make a piece of jewelry. She had previously made a piece of jewelery from elk faeces, she continued.
After surrendering the small box to customs, the feces were destroyed by agricultural specialists.
Can bring disease
– Bringing faeces into the United States entails great danger. There is a great risk that someone could have become ill and developed serious health problems, says LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke of the US Customs Service to the AP.
She refers to, among other things, African swine fever, Newcastle disease and classical swine fever.
However, all hope for a piece of jewelery with giraffe faeces is not lost:
You can bring it into the USA with you, as long as you have the right permits and it has been inspected.
