‘The Lady Killer’ is a Bollywood film directed by Ajay Bal with Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Padnekar in lead roles. The first day collection reports of the film which released on October 20 are now gaining attention. ‘The Lady Killer’ is at the forefront of the failed films of 2023. The film was made by Sahil Mirchandani and Shailesh R Singh on a budget of Rs 45 crores, but the film earned only Rs 38000 on its first day. A total of 293 tickets were sold for the film which was released in only 50 centres.
There is a widespread allegation that the film was completed without completing the filming and was hacked through editing. The film hit the theaters without creating any expectations in the audience. The release date and the first look poster were released just a week before the release.
The film was directed by Arjun Bal, who gained attention with films like BA Pass and Session 375. ‘The Lady Killer’, which started shooting in October last year, got stuck after shooting most of the scenes. Around Rs 5 crores were needed to complete the shoot, and the lead characters’ additional dates of around ten days were again necessary, which prompted the makers to shoot the film with only the scenes that had been shot. The desire of the activists to somehow recover from the strike finally became this course. Bollywood Hungama had reported that the poor production was the reason for the decline in quality of the film. But there are also arguments that the rains in Uttarakhand hampered the shooting in these locations.
A common complaint is that Bollywood films are generally lower in quality compared to South Indian films. Earlier, the films were of low quality and achieved financial success, but now it is seen that low quality films are being ignored by the audience. South Indian films like Baahubali, KGF, Kantara and RRR have achieved huge financial success and critical acclaim in Bollywood as well, leading to many controversies in the Bollywood film industry. But the recent release of Shahrukh Khan starrer ‘Jawaan’ collected around Rs 1150 crores from the global market, but this film was directed by South Indian director Atlee.
Many critics point out that repetitive boredom and weak content are the main reasons for the woes Bollywood films are currently facing. But there is widespread criticism that this is due to the prevalence of nepotism in Bollywood.
