The Kremlin has completely lost touch with reality – Peskov rejects state funding for Wagner, although in June Putin said exactly the opposite.
In June, Vladimir Putin admitted that Wagner mercenaries received funding from the state budget of the Russian Federation. However, on August 25, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov declaredthat this PMC never received money from the Russian budget.
“There was no government funding. This has nothing to do with being in Belarus, this is a completely different order of the topic“, – said Putin’s PR man.
He also recalled that de jure “Wagner” does not exist, but at the same time, some group of mercenaries fought in Ukraine. In this regard, Peskov could not say anything about the future of Prigozhin’s militants, who were allegedly left without the founder of the PMC.
Note that in June, Putin personally confirmed that the content of the militants “was fully provided by the state.” According to him, since last May alone, more than 86 billion rubles have been allocated from the budget to Wagner. The announcement was made after the failure of Prigozhin’s proxy rebellion and his march on Moscow.
Recall that on August 23, Russian media reported on death Evgeny Prigogine in Africa. His business jet was allegedly shot down by an air defense system. The Western press recalled that the Russian Defense Ministry does not act without an order from the Kremlin.
A day after the plane crash, Putin acknowledged the death of Prigogine, but was very careful in his statements. And in the Kremlin categorically denied from involvement in the death of the leader of the Wagner PMC.
