the Kremlin started talking about readiness for negotiations with Ukraine

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said that peace talks would take place if Kyiv showed real readiness for them. At the same time, Moscow’s position on this issue allegedly remains “clear, intelligible and transparent.”

The Russian Federation is ready to negotiate with Ukraine if the Ukrainian authorities show a real interest in this and do not put forward preconditions. Such a statement was made on February 1 by Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, transmits Russian agency RBC.

“Our position is clear, intelligible and transparent. We are ready for negotiations … without the preconditions that they are trying to set,” she said.

The speaker of the Federation Council noted that Moscow does not yet see a real readiness of the Ukrainian authorities to sit down at the negotiating table.

“Negotiations are negotiations. But if the Kyiv regime is ready for real negotiations. We do not see this,” Matviyenko said.

According to her, the West is not taking any steps towards a peaceful settlement, since the increase in the supply of arms by the West to Ukraine is not at all a call for peace. At the same time, Matvienko cited the words of former US President Donald Trump, who on January 27 said that if he were the head of the White House, he could “agree to end the conflict in 24 hours”.

“You can treat former US President Donald Trump in different ways, but I think he very accurately said:” If the United States wanted to, they would have put them at the negotiating table in a day. “I think this is an accurately expressed thought. They do not this deliberately,” Matvienko stressed.

According to the speaker of the Federation Council, if Washington really wanted to establish peace in Ukraine, they would “in every possible way force Kyiv to comply with the Minsk agreements.”

Earlier, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about the prospects for negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov said on January 30 that the decision of the United States and NATO allies to transfer battle tanks to Kyiv makes it “meaningless” for Moscow to conduct any negotiations.

Recall that from December 13 to 21, 2022, a survey was conducted in Ukraine to find out how Ukrainians see victory in the war against the Russian Federation and under what conditions one can expect the end of the conflict. According to the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, 93% of respondents believe in the victory of Ukraine and only 3% doubt it.
