May 9 is in Russia one of the most important days of the year, and marks the victory over Germany after World War II.
Ukrainian intelligence thus claims that Russia is planning to hold a parade in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol on this date.
They also claim that the deputy head of the Russian presidential administration responsible for Russia’s domestic policy, Sergei Kiriyenko, has recently arrived in the devastated city.
– His main task is to prepare for the ceremonial events associated with May 9, the intelligence writes in a report.
The Russian government snorts at the allegations.
– Do not listen to such things. That is not true and just nonsense, the Kremlin answered questions about speculation about a national mobilization on May 9.

Many rumors
There are many rumors swirling about what will happen on May 9. Several Western intelligence sources have said that President Vladimir Putin will then declare war on Ukraine and introduce mass mobilization.
On Tuesday, Pope Francis said he had been told by Hungarian leader Viktor Orban that Putin would instead use the day to end what is being described as a special operation – and not a war – in Ukraine.
– It’s very interesting. The two scenarios are possible, but they are diametrically opposed, says chief researcher Tor Bukkvoll at the Armed Forces Research Institute to NTB.
He further says that it is difficult to say which is more likely of the two. The statements from the Russian authorities differ in all directions. It is confusing to watch, says Bukkvoll.
