Russia’s ambassador to Sarajevo, Igor Kalabukhov, urged Bosnians to think carefully about whether they need EU membership, saying the EU had already “degraded institutionally and morally” and offered nothing good to potential new members while depriving them of sovereignty. HINA news agency reported.
After earlier challenging Bosnia’s right to join NATO, threatening Moscow with a response, Kalabukhov has now expanded his propaganda campaign against the European Union, accusing it of pursuing a neo-imperialist policy toward non-EU countries.
In an article for the Bosnian Serb newspaper Glas Srpske, Kalabuhov said sanctions imposed on Russia for its military invasion of Ukraine were proof that the West had lost its “moral compass” and that Moscow had no one to talk to about the current situation.
The European Union has degraded institutionally and morally. It is well known that practically no one outside the so-called the collective West has not joined the sanctions against Moscow, the Russian ambassador said.
According to Kalabukhov, the EU is blackmailing the Western Balkans by declaring the region its area of interest, while at the same time setting its countries membership criteria that they cannot meet. He sees this as proof of the neo-imperialist policy of the EU.
The Russian ambassador urges Bosnians to forget about EU standards and turn to themselves, because European institutions created to maintain a balance of interests are used as tools by individual member states to impose their own rules on the rest of the world. to use restrictive mechanisms to punish those who disobey.
