The Krefeld penguins are doing better than last year

Krefeld He’s a veteran, he knows his stuff. Alexander Weiß says the preparations are better than last year and exudes confidence. And Dennis Miller from Augsburg reveals why he came to Krefeld.
Many of the Krefeld Pinguine players who live here complete their summer preparations in the Yayla Arena weight room. Athletics trainer Leonardo Manzano Alvares makes you sweat a lot. Among other things, weights are lifted and the boys pedal hard on the bicycles so that there is an appropriate basis before they hit the ice in the first days of August.

In addition to Alexander Weiß and Dominik Tiffels, the approximately ten-strong training group also includes returnees Philip Riefers and the two newcomers Dennis Miller and Nikita Krymskiy. Weiß, who at the age of 35 has already trained at many locations, certifies that the athletic trainer has done a good job: “Leo is doing really well this summer. It’s going much better than last year, I think we’ll be optimally prepared when we go out on the ice.”

The veteran also has a word of praise for his young team-mates: “They are all hard-working guys. You can tell they want to achieve something. They ask a lot and I try to help them.”

One of the young players is 18-year-old Nikita Krymskiy, who came from Oberliga Diez-Limburg and now wants to prove himself in DEL 2: “It’s a completely different level, I have to adapt. It’s faster and more physical ice hockey than in the big leagues. I can’t say anything about my role in the team yet. I’ll see about that in August when the coach is there. I will do my best.”

Dennis Miller is also part of the young guard. The 22-year-old striker comes from Augsburg. When asked about the reason for his move, the attacker, who also played 16 games for the second division club Bad Tölz last season and collected 13 points, said: “Sergey Saveljev really wanted me. Now I want to help to make the return to the DEL. We have a good chance of promotion because we have a strong team. I don’t see a very big difference between the DEL and the DEL 2. In the DEL 2 they play a bit more offensively, that suits my style of play.” Miller has praise for the office: “The organization here in Krefeld is great, I also have a nice apartment”.

As part of the preparation, the penguins are taking part in a tournament in Bremerhaven. They meet Swedish second division club Vasteras IK at 5 p.m. on September 9th and the next day hosts Bremerhaven or Swedish second division club Kristianstads IK.
