This goal became the second-fastest overtime goal in franchise history, behind only Matty Beniers’ goal on December 1, 2022. He scored it seven seconds into overtime, in a 3-2 victory about the Washington Capitals.
“I don’t want to say it was a complete game from minute one to minute 63,” Seattle head coach Dan Bylsma said of the game. “But it was our best game, really [en términos de] compete the way we want and need to compete.”
Seattle (6-8-1) had to dig hard to shake off the malaria. Within the first 14 minutes of the game they were down 2-0. However, Tanev carried the team on his shoulder and scored two goals that allowed Seattle to get into the game. The left forward scored at minute 17:21 of the opening period and at minute 7:13 of the second.
Tanev helped the club to its second multi-goal comeback this season (also on October 12 against MIN). Only four teams have recorded multiple comebacks: the St. Blues, Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators (all with two).
“I think we got out of control for a few minutes in the second period,” Bylsma said. “And I thought it was a huge, huge goal from Tanev, not just for him, but for the team. Getting that goal from him to make it 2-1 really got us back into the game.”
Although McCann and Tanev took the spotlight, Oliver Bjorkstrand’s performance is also worth highlighting. The right forward gave the Kraken their first lead of the game in the third period. He redeemed himself in a big way after not being called up for what was a 6-3 loss on Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche.
