The Kontinental Hockey League Partners with Yandex Plus for Expanded Audience Reach and Improved Digital Services

The goal of strategic cooperation is mutual expansion of audiences, improvement of the League’s digital products and services for sports fans.

The Kontinental Hockey League and Yandex Plus have signed a five-year cooperation agreement. The leader of the digital market in Russia and neighboring countries, which has combined content services and special offers for users in a subscription, is integrating Yandex Plus into KHL matches and launching a number of projects together with the League. From the 2023/2024 season, all regular season and playoff matches will be available with a Yandex Plus subscription, which will replace pay-per-view broadcasts and season passes for watching matches, becoming a standard KHL subscription for Russian fans. You can issue it on the league website and on Yandex services.

Fans will also receive other Plus benefits, including cashback with points, access to online cinema libraries and music. On the Yandex Afisha website, tickets for Fonbet KHL Championship matches will be sold without a service fee with a cashback of up to 5% if you have a Yandex Plus subscription. Tickets for their matches on Yandex Afisha are sold by 17 out of 23 KHL clubs. The League and Plus Studio also agreed on the joint production of content for different age categories, aimed at expanding the audience of hockey.

Sergei Dobrokhvalov, Vice President of the KHL:
“We are pleased to announce the conclusion of a deal with the largest Russian IT company Yandex. In 2023, a new strategy for the development of the KHL came into force, where most of it is devoted to working with the audience. A person’s time is scheduled, and he has several hours a day for rest and entertainment. He spends about 10 hours per week consuming video content. We understand that it is necessary to improve digital tools in order to provide the audience with content adapted to their needs, so the League’s partnership with the ecosystem of services fully meets the new strategic goals of the KHL. The implementation of joint initiatives with Yandex Plus will expand the user experience of the audience and increase the reach of the League. Yandex Plus is the market leader, and many fans already use its services, watch our TV channels and matches on Kinopoisk, and buy tickets on Yandex Afisha. Together with Yandex entertainment services, we will work on projects that will make watching matches at home or in the arena even more comfortable.”

Sergey Barkhudaryan, director of sports development at Yandex Plus:
“The popularity of hockey among our audience is constantly growing, it is loved and watched all over the country. We look at the club season as a blockbuster series, the plot of which develops with each new match. Clubs have their own stars and fandom, which does not miss any news about the club. Together with the League, we want to bring those who are interested in sports to matches, make viewing comfortable both online and offline, and expand the audience of fans of this national sport. We have Yandex Plus for this with 23 million subscribers, and we like the direction that the KHL has chosen, reducing the number of stops, changing the rules in favor of increasing the pace and increasing the effectiveness of the game. Together with the League, we would like to make hockey even more exciting.”
