No live performances, no events, no fun: Corona is causing a dry spell in the cultural sector, which demands a lot from the artists themselves and of course the fans. Because all the big festivals are canceled this year, the Kleine Zeitung is now daring an interesting alternative with its online festival: In the Styria Media Center, six bands will set the tone on May 7th and 8th, and will be filmed – and on May 15th kleinezeitung.at shown. Users can comfortably watch the performances in the living room, as well as backstage sequences, so an added value.

The idea comes from the marketing manager Andrea Rachbauer, the concept was then created and implemented by the marketing team and Ballguide. “With the Comedy Night at Mardi Gras, we not only got a lot of attention, but also generated a lot of conversions, i.e. test subscriptions. We want to build on this success with the festival format. “

In advance, the Kleine Zeitung had called on young up-and-coming bands to apply to a selection for a vacant place on the stage. “We received around 60 submissions for this”, the Marketing Manager is happy. They finally made it “The Kronskies”, which are now next to the “Hearts Hearts ”,“ Nino from Vienna ”,“ Good Wilson ”,“ Rote Augen ”and“ Lylit ”will be part of the line-up. Also in advance, fans had the opportunity to win exclusive passes for the festival on site, which of course will run under a strictly tested corona prevention scheme. “In addition, festival packages for at home were raffled among all competition participants, including snacks, drinks, band merchandise and more”, so Rachbauer.

The gigs are recorded in the skyroom, on the terrace on the 2nd floor, in the garden of the SMC and in the newsroom, with several cameras, a rail system and a crane. A drone will also be used.

For the Kleine Zeitung, May 15th will be all about the festival. Two hosts, Thomas Cik (Small newspaper) and Hannah fence screen (Food), accompany the day and conduct interviews. After that, the clips of the individual acts are released every hour. Start is at 2 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.

Rachbauer: “Meanwhile, users can get involved interactively with Instagram stories, among other things – by revealing which band their heart beats for, they can win tickets for one of the next live concerts of their favorite bands.”
