Kuala Lumpur –
Raja Malaysia or Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa expressed great disappointment with the government’s decision to revoke the six emergency rules during the pandemic corona virus (COVID-19) without his permission.
As reported The Star, Thursday (29/7/2021), a statement from the Kingdom of Malaysia also said that Al-Sultan Abdullah was surprised that the abolition of the emergency rule was not discussed in parliament by the government of Prime Minister (PM) Muhyiddin Yassin.
The House Supervisor of Istana Negara Malaysia, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamdussin, cited article 150 paragraph 2 (b) and article 150 paragraph (3) of the Federal Constitution to clearly state that the authority to enforce and repeal emergency rules rests with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“In this regard, His Majesty expresses disappointment at the July 26 statement in parliament that the government has revoked all the Emergency Regulations announced by the King during the emergency period, although His Majesty has not approved the repeal,” said Ahmad Fadil in a statement.
He added that the King of Malaysia also expressed great frustration that his proposal for the repeal of the Emergency Rules to be submitted and discussed in parliament, was not implemented.
“His Majesty’s proposal was previously approved in a virtual meeting on July 24 with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliamentary Affairs and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun,” Ahmad Fadil said.
“His Majesty stressed that the statement made by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs on July 26 was inaccurate and has confused the People’s Council,” he added.
