The King has accepted the resignation of the De Wever-Magnette duo: Egbert Lachaert (Open Vld) takes over

The King accepted the resignation of the two preformers after having met the presidents of the various political formations. The sovereign had started his consultations, starting with Joachim Coens (CD&V) and Conner Rousseau (Sp.a).

He instructed Egbert Lachaert (Open Vld) to take the necessary initiatives allowing the establishment of a government which relies on a large majority in parliament. He will make a first report to the sovereign on August 28.

The rag is currently burning between several parties that could figure in a future federal government. The president of the MR in particular castigated this Tuesday the remarks made by Bart De Wever after having announced his failure to the King. The president of the N-VA had estimated that it was “easier to torpedo an agreement than to find one”. “This remark comes from a connoisseur,” quipped the liberal leader.
