King Harald will be present at Toralv Maurstad’s funeral on Thursday.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Minister of Culture and Equality Anette Trettebergstuen will also be present in Oslo Cathedral on Thursday.
Toralv Maurstad was 95 years old. He fell asleep peacefully Friday 4th November.

– Toralv Maurstad goes down in history as a legend of Norwegian theater and cultural life. For decades he has enriched Norwegian cultural life with his creative power and unique brilliance on stage and in front of the camera. It is with gratitude that we will remember him and all the experiences he gave us, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in the press release.
State-paid burial is an award granted by the government. The survivors of Maurstad have consented, writes the government in the press release. About 100 people have been buried at state expense since the scheme was introduced in 1881.
– Toralv Maurstad’s stage design and charisma were outstanding. He reached a large audience and was someone many Norwegians felt they knew. He will be remembered as an impressive stage artist, an important theater director and one of the greatest cultural personalities of our time, said Culture and Equality Minister Anette Trettebergstuen in this regard.
