‘The Kerala Story’ is a political continuation of the hatred that Sangh Parivar puts forward against Kerala. As the art form that can most easily influence people, cinema is often used as a political weapon. It has been used by Hitler. Following this style, Sudeepto Sen made the Kerala Story as part of the Sangh Parivar’s agenda. This is a continuation of Sangh Parivar’s interventions in cinema. After the BJP came to power in 2014, they started making sure that all areas related to cinema do not speak against them. Sangh Parivar attacked theaters where Aamir Khan starrer PK was screened. However, the democratic community supported PK. Then he moved to using power. Pahlaj Nihalani, a Modi devotee who made the video ‘Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi’ before the elections in 2014, was appointed as the head of the Censor Board. With this, the interventions in the movie contents that did not go along with their position intensified. The first move was against Uttar Punjab. Censoring was suggested in 94 places. The movie hit the theaters with the court verdict. In June 2015, BJP appointed Gajendra Chauhan as the Chairman of the Pune Film Institute. The Center has abolished the Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal for filing complaints against the proceedings of the Censor Board when there were widespread complaints against undue interference in censoring. Then it was suggested to avoid words like prime minister, prime minister’s office and beef widely. Even Deepika Padukone’s saffron outfit in Pathan was censored. At the same time as the movement against films that the Sangh Parivar did not like, films emphasizing Hindutva nationalism began to be widely produced. Bollywood started with films like Manikarnika, Panipat, Kesari, Tanhaji and Samrat Prithviraj. As the country prepares to face elections in 2019, Modi’s song ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ hit the screens. The Central Government supported the Uriya by awarding them. The move in Bollywood has extended to regional films as well. Rajamouli made Baahubali and RRR in Telugu. Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara came in Kannada. RRR is the story of two people fighting against British imperialism. However, at the crucial stage, the hero who faces the British appears as the savior in the guise of Kavidhricha Rama. These signs are not innocent when the Sangh Parivar is raising the Ramarajya slogan. Doordarshan telecast Mahabharata has fueled BJP’s Ramjanmabhoomi politics in history. Baahubali is creating a signal that Indian cinema cannot survive without religion. Those glorifying monarchy and Brahminism are constantly being created. Rajamouli is thinking of making a film on the organization as the RSS reaches 100 years. Rajamouli said that he cried after reading the script written by his father Vijendra Prasad. Baahubali’s story and RRR’s screenplay were by Vijendra. Rishabh Shetty’s remark was a boost to the Sangh Parivar’s move to Hinduize the kezhala art of Kantara called Theiya. Rishab said that Panchurli, the exorcism shown in Kantara, is a part of Hinduism. Petro, directed by Nadesh Hedge, was an internationally notable Kannada film. The film, which was screened at the Busan Mela, was dropped from the Bengaluru Mela by the Karnataka Film Academy due to Sangh Parivar interference. The reason was that there is a scene where a cow is killed. Goan was also ignored at the fair. It was at this stage that ‘The Kashmir Files’, an agenda produced by the Sangh Parivar, was screened in Goa in the international category. Nadav Lapid, chairman of the jury of the festival, came out against the film, which creates a narrative that Kashmiri Muslims are pro-Pakistan. Prabhash Chandra’s ‘I Am Not River Jhelum’ is about the lives of Muslims in Kashmir who have to prove to the government that they are patriots. Director Prabhash Chandra said that while shooting the film in Kashmir, he was under the surveillance of secret intelligence agencies. The BJP government, which banned the BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots, is supporting Kashmir Files and Kerala Story. BJP has come forward as their propagandists. The Kerala Story is a gang-parivar campaign that claims 32,000 women were converted to Islam in Kerala, smuggled to Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria and joined ISIS. Sudeepto said that the basis of this information was the estimate given by the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the Assembly. There is no such record. Sudeepto’s documentary ‘In the Name of Love’, released in 2018, was about ‘Loujihadi’. However, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said in Parliament in February 2020 that there is no jihad. On October 5, 2009, a Malayalam newspaper published a story titled ‘Pranayakurukkumai Romeo Jihads’ which started the campaign called Laujihad in the country. Then, through the publication of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, the whole country was spread with the social engineering of the Sangh Parivar. At that time, the investigation conducted on the instructions of the High Court found that the news and propaganda were fake. The Kerala story was created by dusting off the campaign that was found to be fake a decade ago. The film belongs to Kerala, which is not very familiar to Malayalis. Kasarakote College, with its mural of Osama bin Laden, and men standing by as women are attacked in shopping malls are depicted as a land ruled by terrorists. The upcoming film Tippu will make Tippusultan a villain. In the announcement video, Tipu is described as the man who destroyed 8,000 temples and 27 mosques and forced 4 million Hindus to convert and feed them beef. Resistance to that politics of hate also rose when the Sangh Parivar staged special exhibitions for the Kerala story. Dhruv Rathi’s video has become a direct testimony of Kerala, upholding the model of social—economic development of Kerala. Many people in the social-cultural-political field came forward criticizing the film and pointing out the excellence of Kerala. AR Rahman, Rasul Pookutty, Tovino Thomas and others joined in the defense by declaring that this is not the story of Kerala. Read on deshabhimani.com
