Karel Gott he was a man who always enjoyed every moment of his life. This also applied to his old knees, when he spent time surrounded by loved ones, whether with a woman Ivanou with daughters Charlotte a Nellou, or with his grandchildren Vojta and Honza. These common but very valuable moments were captured in a new documentary by director Olga Malířová Špátová called Karel Special.
“Karel Gott let us get close to his life while making the film. He took the work on the film very seriously. He worked with us with great energy, even though he was already ill. He devoted himself fully to every scene, Karel put so many ideas and efforts into each of them. It is therefore a great pleasure for me to see the light of God in the fourteen new sequences from Charles’ life. “ says the director, who believes that in these difficult times, the singer’s art and his cheerful, kind nature can bring people new joy and hope.
Karel Gott: He never drank beer before the duet
The first examples show, for example, how the legendary Master was preparing for a singing performance. He and his wife Ivana read the lyrics and repeated important commandments. “Don’t apologize, don’t reveal that I’m indisposed, that I have some problems … I don’t! “ recalled a singer who had suffered from health problems in the last years of his life.
Gott also explained why he didn’t like wearing scarves. When he was young, his professor told him not to cover his neck, because once he took off his scarf, the breeze would blow and he would immediately get sick. “Strengthen yourself! This is another commandment …” said the singer in the document. However, his wife reacted promptly. “Yeah, that’s why you’re ventilating at home,” Ivan finally understood.
The third commandment was also present. And that beer is not drunk before the performance, especially when there are duets on the program. “It is not entirely pleasant to breathe beer and it is even better to have a sandwich with sardines and onions beforehand. Or even better tartare with garlic and even onions! This is then the highlight. I don’t do that at all, then at home, “ revealed Master.
Gott’s Easter at the cottage
The unique documentary also captured how Gott celebrated Easter with family at the cottage. There was no lack of live music, the legendary singer poured plum brandy for the musicians and enjoyed the cold beer himself. In addition, he taught his grandchildren Vojta and Honzíkthat his daughter Lucie gave him to knit. “Vojta, but not a finger!” the Master rebuked his grandson, who used scissors to cut a bow at the pompadour. Viewers can see this and other previously unseen shots in a new documentary, which will soon be on the Voyo platform.
