The film biography of Bob Marley beat the superhero film “Madame Web”, both in Sweden and abroad.
The time of the artist portrait is now. Today, a very interesting documentary about Kal P Dal has its cinema premiere.
Are cinema audiences tired of superheroes in leotards fighting?
Who knows, not you, who knows, not meas Lisa Ekdahl sings. The industry still has high hopes for “Deadpool & Wolverine” coming at the end of July. But this year’s superhero movies so far have semi- or completely flopped. “Madame Web” with Dakota Johnson was defeated at movie theaters around the world by “Bob Marley: One love”, about the reggae icon Bob Marleys (1945-1981) life, which looks to be a somewhat unexpectedly great success. In Sweden, only “Håkan Bråkan 2” attracted more moviegoers.
And the trend with artist biographies, where several – “Bohemian rhapsody”, “Rocketman”, “Elvis” – have had great success in recent years, can probably last.

There will be a feature film about it Amy Winehouse. There are plans for both Michael Jackson– and Bee Gees– biographies. And most of all; the star director Sam Mendes will remake four feature films Beatles, one for each member of the group. Expected to arrive in 2027.
Here in Sweden went The Empire– the documentary “A heart is always red” well at the cinema. Close to 30,000 spectators. And now “The film about Kal P Dal” has premiered in nearly a hundred cinemas.

Just like Bob Marley got Kal P Song a far too short life. Passed away just 35 years young, after a brain haemorrhage.
During the late 1970s, he and his band were one of Sweden’s most popular live bands. Attracted large crowds in the public parks. With their energetic 1950s-inspired rock, they hit home with raggers and punks alike. And Kal P Dal’s rock ‘n’ roll lyrics in Scanian were unique.
Day Ösgårds and Stefan Källstigens film lets us get close to him through archival footage from concerts and interviews with band and family members. He was loved by the young people at child psychiatry where he worked before his career. And there is probably not a picture from the film where he does not radiate a unique positive force. A strong film.
