The Justice of Russia decrees two months of house arrest against the brother of the opponent Alexei Navalni

MADRID, 29 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A court in Moscow, the Russian capital, has issued two months of house arrest on Friday against Oleg Navalni, brother of the influential opponent Alexei Navalni, according to information from the radio station Echo of Moscow.

Navalni’s brother has been arrested throughout the day for allegedly violating the health measures imposed in the framework of the pandemic by participating in the protests registered last Saturday in the country in favor, precisely, of the dissident’s release .

Together with Oleg Navalni, activists Liubov Sobol and Anastasia Vasilieva were detained, who will remain in prison for at least 48 hours, long enough for them to be unable to attend the protests scheduled for this Saturday.

Thus, Navalni will not be able to use his mobile phone or the Internet until March 23, as the court has indicated.

Last weekend, nationwide protesters called for the release of the Russian politician and, according to estimates by the pro-human rights body OVD-Info, some 3,700 people were arrested on Saturday in different parts of Russia, including more than 1,400 in Moscow. and more than 550 in St. Petersburg. More than 40 people were injured in these protests, which lacked official permission.

Navalni was arrested on January 18 upon his arrival at Moscow airport after spending months in Germany recovering from a poisoning – for which the prominent opponent blames the country’s president, Vladimir Putin – directly, as has been the repression of protests in their favor and the arrest of thousands of protesters in recent days.

Putin has rejected any responsibility of the Russian authorities in the supposed poisoning suffered by Navalni and has appealed to the “framework of the law” for the call of any mobilization in favor of the opponent in the Eurasian country.
