The Jura Hospital opens a medical office in the Franches-Montagnes

The Jura Hospital provides support to patients and doctors in the Franches-Montagnes. The canton of Jura faces a lack of generalists. But the situation is particularly tense in the Franches-Montagnes. And the situation will not improve with the retirement at the end of the year of Dr. Anker installed in Saignelégier. The consultation opened by the Jura Hospital should make it possible to relieve the situation a little. From February 27, it will be installed in the premises of Dr Anker, who will gradually reduce his activity.

The consultation will be supervised by Dr. Cindi Smith, head of the geriatrics department at H-JU and head physician. Two geriatrics specialists employed by the H-JU will take turns to take care of part of Dr. Anker’s patients as well as other elderly people in the Franches-Montagnes who do not have or no longer have a family doctor, explains the ‘H-JU in his statement. Consultations will take place in the office, but home visits will be possible for cases that require it.

Improving care for seniors in the Jura

The H-JU further specifies that this new structure will operate like a traditional medical office and will be recognized as such by health insurance. For the Jura Hospital, this consultation also makes it possible to strengthen the care of seniors, explains the H-JU in its press release. In particular, it will make it possible to maintain the independence of the elderly but also to anticipate a deterioration of their symptoms and thus increase their chances of staying at home longer and in good health. /comm-tna
