The Ninth Constitutional Court of Lima ordered the reinstatement of Luis Cervantes Liñán as rector of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega University (UIGV) on March 24, despite the fact that five years earlier, he had been dismissed for having been involved in a case of money laundering and illicit enrichment.
Cervantes was questioned for having received more than S/ 50,000,000 in salary between 2011 and 2013, while his son, Adolfo Cervantes Ganoza, received more than S/ 2,000,000 working as academic secretary of said house of studies. .

In 2014, the 29th Criminal Court of Lima prosecuted the reinstated rector of the UIGV for receiving a salary of more than S/ 2,000,000 per month. In that year he also bought an overpriced piece of land in Chincha.
In 2019, the National Superintendency of University Higher Education (Sunedu) fined the UIGV and suspended its then rector. Cervantes appealed, but his appeal was rejected by the governing body of higher education.
