Svetlana Kamenova left the Paris Olympics with her head held high after losing to Taiwan’s infamous Lin Yu-ting in the women’s 57kg boxing tournament.
In the first part, the two were extremely even and the judges were split in the scoring with a 3:2 vote in favor of Lin.
The second part was more distinctly in favor of the Taiwanese woman, but we can’t ignore the three remarks that had no real consequences for Yu-ting. She kept elbowing her way into the clinches, but apparently those techniques didn’t strike the Canadian judge as enough to take away a point.
In the official decision, there was already unanimity among the five observing arbitrators.
The third round was a tactical circling of the ring by Lin Yu-ting, and although Svetlana Kamenova called for a fight several times, it did not change her tactical plan.
The strangest thing was that again the round was given in favor of the representative from Chinese Taipei, to see a unanimous decision for her place in the semi-finals.
The Bulgarian comes home fifth at the Paris Games, which have already been marred by the gender identity scandals of both Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khalif in the 66kg category.
