TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Prabowo Subianto admitted that he was surprised to hear the complaints from the people hacim who asks for a raise. For this reason, Prabowo asked the judges to be patient until he is officially installed as president.

“Please be patient, I was also surprised to hear about your condition, but I have planned how to improve your condition,” Prabowo said on the phone to Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who also heard from the representative of the judge in the DPR III Commission room, Tuesday, October 8 2024.

Prabowo believes that the welfare of judges should be the responsibility of the state. According to Prabowo, this is necessary to maintain the independence of judges so that they are not bribed.

“When I get the baton, I will take judges seriously so that our country can eliminate corruption, judges cannot be bribed, judges cannot be bought, judges must be honorable,” Prabowo said .

In a public hearing by Commission III, several representatives of judges complained that there had been no salary increase in the last 12 years. Judges who are members of Indonesian Judges’ Solidarity (SHI) also requested changes to the judges’ allowance scheme which still follows the allowances for civil servants (PNS).

“It is said that the status of this judge is that of a state official, but our allowance scheme is equal to the service of civil servants. This means that we have received a salary all this time without a clear legal basis , there is no clarity even though this is a rule of law country,” said SHI coordinator Rangga Lukita Desnata.

Rangga continued, apart from the lack of salary and increase in allowances after the civil service scheme, he also complained about the lack of support resources. One is the lack of security facilities for judges.

“We often receive threats, terror and fear when we handle cases, there are no adequate security resources so that we and our families are in danger,” he said.

The arrival of the judges to the DPR continues the act of mass leave by the judges. Law enforcement officers are on holiday from 7 to 11 October 2024.

The Institute for Research and Advocacy for Judicial Independence (LeIP) said 1,611 judges were on mass leave. LeIP Director Tanzeil Aziezii explained that the mass action was driven by the disappointment of judges who have not received a salary increase in 12 years.

“So they are not suddenly angry, but they have been to KY before, talked to the Supreme Court and IKAHI, complained here and there, but there have been no changes ,” Tanziel told him TempoTuesday 1 October 2024.
