The judge orders the PBA members to return to work

The vaccination mandate for municipal employees suffers a legal setback.

On Friday, Manhattan Judge Lyle Frank declared this measure invalid for PBA or Police Benevolent Association workers.

In its ruling, it ruled that police union members who have been fired or licensed for their refusal to be vaccinated should be reinstated to their jobs.

The judge added that the city did not collectively negotiate with the PBA when it imposed the warrant.

The union represents approximately 24,000 NYPD members.

In a statement, PBA President Patrick Lynch said the ruling, and we quote, “confirms what we have always said: the vaccine mandate was an improper violation of our members’ right to make medical decisions.” .

Former Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the mandate into law in October last year.

A spokesperson for the city’s legal department said the Adams administration will appeal the judge’s decision “immediately”, blocking the new ruling until the appeal is heard.
