The Jr. NBA tournament organized by the Municipality of Montevideo begins
Some 685 children and adolescents will compete in different neighborhoods of the capital.
The Jr. NBA youth basketball tournament begins this Friday and will be played on different courts throughout Montevideo.
Almost 700 young people signed up for this tournament organized by the Municipality of Montevideo.
The inauguration will be at 5:00 p.m. in Parque Capurro, but at the same time there will be activity in several neighborhoods. 11 games will be played today.
Beyond sports activity, the idea is to promote inclusion and sociability among young people.
Marcelo Signorelli, basketball coach who is in charge of Sports in the capital city, spoke with Telenoche as did Luis “Bicho” Silvera, one of the leaders of the sector who is also one of the promoters of this project.
Some 685 young people are about to play the tournament where the least important thing is who wins.
“It is not a sports competition, but rather it is a social aspect for them to exchange among themselves and socialize. We are giving sports to boys and girls who may not have the opportunity to spend the summer, which is physical and mental health,” Signorelli said.
Each box will have its own team and you will be able to play as if you were in the shoes of big stars.
“We are going to be having fun, having a good time and playing in NBA uniforms as if the boys and girls were Golden State players, Detroit players or Los Angeles Lakers players. It’s a dream,” he added.
For his part, “Bug” celebrated the “illusion in many cases not only of putting on an NBA jersey, but of putting on a jersey to play a basketball game.”
The Jr. NBA tournament is organized by the Municipality of Montevideo and will be played in various places in the capital.
“In some way it is achieving the dream of the NBA boys in each neighborhood and each square. I think it is unique and it is the first time that it happens at the neighborhood level, at the popular level,” Silvera closed.
