MILAN – Spain’s footballers defeated Cyprus at home in Tuesday’s European Championship 2024 qualification match and claimed their third victory in Group A. The other favorites did not hesitate either, in Group C the Italians triumphed over Ukraine 2:1 and in the “efka” the Belgians beat Estonia 5:0.
The Spaniards had a huge advantage at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes in Granada from the start, in the first half they sent 16 shots at the opponent’s goal, the visitors none. In the 18th minute, Williams processed the ball after a long pass, crossed from the left into the penalty area for Gavi, and the 19-year-old midfielder did not hesitate. 15 minutes later Williams crossed again and Marino headed in the second goal for the home team.
After the break, Joselu was the first to take the lead when he sent the ball into the net with his head, and Ferran Torres made it 4-0 moments later, after a pass from Carvajal. Alejandro Baena scored the fifth goal in the 77th minute after Joselu back-heeled the ball and Torres closed the scoring after a perpendicular pass from Rodri.
In the same group, the Norwegians confirmed their role as favorites, defeating the Georgians 2:1. The goals of Erling Haaland and Martin Ödegaard from the first half were answered by Buda Zivzivadze at the end of the duel.
The Italians at Milan’s San Siro put the Ukrainians under a lot of pressure, they took a two-goal lead thanks to David Frattesi. At the end of the half, however, he reduced Yarmolenko and immediately after the break, the Ukrainians had a chance to equalize. After that, Luciano Spalletti’s men had the upper hand again, but they did not score another goal.

The Belgians did not have a hard time with the Estonians, Jan Vertonghen, Lenadro Trossard, Charles de Ketelaere and twice Romelu Lukaku ensured their smooth triumph. In the next match, the Austrians scored an important victory, succeeding in Sweden 3:1. All goals were scored in the second half, Marko Arnautovič scored twice and Michael Gregoritsch scored once. Emil Holm corrected the result for the home team. The Austrians and the Belgians are at the top of the table, both have collected 13 points.
The match in the I-group in Bucharest between Romania and Kosovo dragged on, the referees interrupted it in the first half due to the indecency of the home fans.
Israel defeated Belarus with a goal by Gabi Kanichowski in the third minute of stoppage time, and the Swiss beat Andorra 3-0 at home.
