The Jovellanos Birthplace houses ‘The Girl of the Spinning’ | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

Gijón adds an activity more linked to International Women’s Day. The Jovellanos Birthplace Museum just received from the Asturias Feminist Association a poster made by the artist from Gijón Mabel Álvarez Lavandera commemorating this anniversary in 1988.

The poster, which was donated by the author to AFA on the occasion of the exhibition Against the canon (2018) held at the University of Oviedo, commemorates this anniversary in 1988 under the title of Girls at work, “The girl with the spinning” and it is inspired by one of the origins of this date, as the artist explains in the interview broadcast in Hoy por hoy Gijón.

Mabel Álvarez Laviada also gives up for the deposit of the Jovellanos Birthplace a series of eleven watercolors in which the creative process Made for the design of a poster commissioned by the Oviedo City Council in 2018, for the advertising campaign of the 25 N celebrations, the Day against gender violence.
