“We had a colossal concert in the Mežaparks Green Theater, let’s start with that. It gave us the feeling that we can do more and bigger, and we had to come to it, by the way,” Upmane-Holstein reveals to host Ines Vaikule. “Then came a couple of consecutive thrusts in such a natural staircase.” As one of the pushes, the musician remembers the concert of the cult group “Coldplay” in Glasgow, which she attended.
“Something broke in me when I saw that – we are the small Latvia, then there is the big world, the big America. And “Coldplay”, yes, that stage was fantastic and the show was fantastic. At the same time, I realized that as a musician I have the instruments they use are quite clear – all those steps, how the direction is made, how the lights work, on a completely different level, of course, on a different scale, but conceptually the formula is roughly understandable,” explains the musician.
“I looked at it and felt ashamed that I knew so much after all these years and didn’t live up to the potential that I have, even on my small scale.”
After the inspiring concert, she felt that the group “Astro’n’out” can do more. “It just depends on your belief in yourself,” she explains.
“I don’t know why we were always afraid of bigger stages, because we always have a great time at festivals, and at city festivals the stages are big, but somehow it felt like a solo concert. Now, looking at how those tickets are moving, and that there is interest in it, absolute confidence that this was such a logical and natural step. At the same time, I also feel that it could not have been sooner, because we had to get there.”
