The joint vaccination campaign against flu and COVID-19 starts this Wednesday

This Wednesday, October 23, the vaccination campaign against flu and COVID-19 will begin in Ceuta, with the aim of strengthening the protection of the most vulnerable people and reducing the impact of both diseases on the capacity of the health system. The Ministry of Health and Social Services has acquired a total of 15,100 doses of the flu vaccine, of which 1,300 will be administered to children between 24 and 59 months by intranasal application. In addition, there will be 8,640 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, adapted to the new strains, supplied by the Ministry of Health.

The campaign is aimed at risk groups, as set out in the Recommendations for vaccination against flu and COVID-19 in the 2024-2025 season, approved by the Public Health Commission. Target groups include people over 60 years of age, residents of senior or disability centers, people with chronic pathologies such as diabetes, cardiovascular, neurological or respiratory diseases, and oncology or transplant patients. Vaccination is also recommended for pregnant women, healthcare personnel, members of the Security Forces, Civil Protection and Firefighters, as well as smokers and patients with celiac disease.

An important novelty in this campaign is the recommendation to vaccinate children between 6 months and 5 years against the flu, continuing the measure adopted last season. Minors under 18 years of age with risk illnesses are also included in this group.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes the importance of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of the number of previous doses received or whether the person has suffered a recent infection. An interval of at least three months from the last dose or infection is recommended.

The points enabled for vaccination in Ceuta will be the Military Hospital, available to anyone in the target population, and the INGESA Health Centers: Zone I (El Recinto), Zone II (Otero) and Zone III (Tarajal). In addition, there will be authorized private consultations, such as that of Dr. Carlos López-González and the Septem Clinic, for pediatric vaccination.

This joint vaccination effort seeks to reduce morbidity and mortality from influenza and COVID-19 and protect people at highest risk of complications. Health authorities insist on the importance of all target groups getting vaccinated to guarantee their protection and that of society as a whole.
