The Joe Biden administration does not rule out that hostilities in Ukraine will continue into 2024. This was stated at an online briefing for journalists by the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council (NSC) of the White House, John Kirby.
He noted that the administration, in this regard, is ready to continue to apply to the US Congress with requests for assistance to Kyiv.
“And we feel comfortable in terms of what we are achieving in the additional request. We think this is the right amount to ask for. Given the state of the fighting in Ukraine at this time, and the extremely clear possibility that the fighting will still continue as we enter the first quarter of next year, move towards the fall,” Kirby said.
The White House won’t hesitate if it decides it needs to ask for more “outside the first quarter of next year.”
“We are confident that this is the right approach,” Kirby said.
The Biden administration yesterday asked Congress for $13 billion in emergency military assistance to Kiev, as well as $8.5 billion in economic and security assistance to Ukraine and other countries as additional federal spending in fiscal 2023. This financial ends in the States on September 30th.
