Fewer unemployed in the region.
(BZ). In May, the number of unemployed in the district of the Freiburg Employment Agency fell again: after a fall of 0.2 percentage points, the unemployment rate of 15 046 women and men without employment in the city of Freiburg and the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen is now around four percent.
The job market is picking up speed again, confirms Andreas Finke, Chairman of the Management Board of the Freiburg Employment Agency. Finke is also confident about the coming months, among other things because the latest opening steps have not yet been taken into account in the current figures.
The demand for workers has also increased: companies reported 1,355 vacancies. That is 230 (or 20.8 percent) more than in April and 641 (or 92.4 percent) more than in May of last year. The hospitality industry reported significantly fewer jobs than usual due to the still applicable Corona restrictions. Short-time working is also falling sharply: According to preliminary figures, the Freiburg employment agency registered 257 people affected in May, 436 in April and March 1869.
The pandemic hit the elderly and the long-term unemployed in particular: While the number of young unemployed people and those with foreign passports fell, it rose among the elderly, but especially among the long-term unemployed.
