The Jerez-born cantaora La Macanita, one of the indisputable figures of contemporary flamenco with a very personal vision of jondo, will star in a new appointment in the ‘Flamenco Thursdays’ series on Thursday, February 23, at the Teatro Bretn.
In the recital, which will take place at 8:00 p.m. and for which the tickets are sold out, the artist with a prodigious voice, full of harmonics and grace, will be accompanied on guitar by Manuel Valencia and to the beat by Chácharo de Jerez and Macano.
Tomasa Guerrero Carrasco, known as La Macanita, joined the Manuel Morao y Gitanos de Jerez Company in 1988 and, shortly after, recorded his first solo album ‘A la luna nueva’. After participating in the show ‘Arco de Santiago’, at EXPO’92 in Seville, she won the Demfilo Flamenco Art Award.
La Macanita received was recognized with the Flamenco Hoy flamenco critics award for the best cante album for ‘Mujerez’ (2009) and ‘Sólo por eso’ (2010). In the ‘VIII Bienal de Sevilla’ she took part in the show ‘100 años de cante’ and took part in the film ‘Flamenco’, by Carlos Saura.
In 2017 it was recognized by the Andalusian Government with the ‘Andalucian Flag’ award.
