Sentani (ANTARA) – The Health Office (Dinkes) of Jayapura Regency, Papua routinely conducts a complete basic immunization program including measles and rubella by targeting all toddlers in the area.
Secretary of the Jayapura District Health Office Edward Sihotang told ANTARA on Saturday that as a protection for toddlers, his party routinely carries out complete basic immunizations including measles and rubella, by 2022 reaching 86 percent of 144 villages and sub-districts.
“We routinely carry out complete basic immunization, including measles and rubella in the villages to protect our toddlers,” he said.
According to Edward, his party is taking protective steps by ensuring that all villages can carry out measles and rubella immunization.
“Special basic immunization against measles has reached 95 percent in 2022 with the hope that by 2023 it should be 100 percent in all villages and sub-districts, we don’t want measles outbreaks to take away our toddlers,” he said.
He explained, this step was taken as an effort to prevent the percentage of measles cases from increasing, but if there was one, his party would immediately take action.
“We are building a network with friends at community health centers and auxiliary health centers, there are surveillance personnel there to provide services under 24 hours,” he said again.
He added, in 2023 his party had appointed several surveillance personnel at the puskesmas as well as the service to see progress of measles cases more quickly and immediately handle them under the 24-hour target.
“We have placed doctors at 22 community health centers in Jayapura Regency, so that the diagnosis will be easier if symptoms appear in our toddlers,” he said.
