On the 1st, the Imperial Household Agency, an administrative agency in charge of Japanese royal affairs, released a video message for the Royal New Year’s greetings. In the video message, Emperor Naruhito and Queen Masako, sitting side by side, appeared.
In this video of about 6 minutes and 45 seconds, Emperor Naruhito said, “Congratulations on the New Year,” and took luck. “Congratulations” said Queen Masako.
Since then, the remarks of Emperor Naruhito continued for a long time, and at the end of the video, Queen Masako said for about 30 seconds, “I think many people this year (2020) have been really hard.”
He added, “I sincerely wish this year to be a quiet year for you,” he added. “Severe cold and big snow are coming from all over the place from early this winter. Please take care of yourself and get along well.”

Earlier, Emperor Naruhito released a message by himself on January 1 of last year, the first New Year after his conquest. This is a follow-up of his father, Emperor Akihito.

Meanwhile, Queen Masako was announced as Naruhito’s marriage partner while graduating from Harvard University’s economics department and working as a foreign official.
